When discussing health risks and benefits, the way we present data matters tremendously. Recently, Dr. Alo criticized Professor Ben Bikman's interpretation of the Swedish longevity study, but let's examine the data carefully and discuss some concerning patterns in how statistics are being presented.

Statistical Sleight of Hand

First, it's worth noting an interesting pattern in Dr. Alo's presentation of data. When discussing red meat and diabetes, he emphasizes a 62% increased risk - a relative risk statistic that sounds alarming. However, the absolute numbers tell a different story: 3 cases per million person-years in low meat consumers versus 5 cases in high consumers - a much less dramatic difference.
